Liar Liar Braeside Review: Modern Jappanese Dinner, Drinks Experience

Liar Liar’s opening night felt like more than dinner. It was a full-night experience with modern Japanese food, strong drinks, live entertainment and real energy in the room. The standout was how easily the night moved from eating into atmosphere, with enough theatre to make it feel like an occasion, not just a booking. Liar Liar is a polished modern Japanese venue in Braeside that blends share-style dining, nigiri, robata, premium seafood and late-night atmosphere in one place. It suits date nights, celebrations and group bookings, especially if you want dinner to roll into something bigger.

Some date nights are nice. This one felt like an event.

We went along for opening night at Liar Liar, and honestly, it was one of the best date nights we’ve had in a long time. Since having kids, a night out has to feel worth it. Worth organising. Worth dressing up for. Worth staying out that little bit longer for. This was exactly that.

Liar Liar brings together modern Japanese dining and the kind of atmosphere that turns dinner into a full night out. Think fresh nigiri, robata over hot charcoal, drinks that keep the night moving, live entertainment, and a room with real energy from the moment you walk in.

From the start, the venue felt switched on. We were welcomed with drinks on arrival, the food kept coming, and the buzz in the room never dipped. There was saxophone, drums, fire dancing, and something happening in every corner. It felt immersive without losing the sense that you were there to settle in, eat well and enjoy the night.

One of the biggest talking points was the tuna display. I’ve never seen a tuna that size before, and watching it become part of the evening added a real sense of theatre. It gave the night that extra layer people actually remember and talk about afterwards.

What makes it even better is how close to home it is. If you’re in Mordialloc, Edithvale or Chelsea, this is a very good shout for a date night, birthday, celebration or group booking. It feels polished, social and memorable without having to head into the city.

I also love seeing local venues create spaces that bring people together. We bumped into familiar faces on the night, and it already had that feeling of becoming a regular for a lot of people. The kind of place you book once, then start thinking about who you’ll bring back next time.

I’m already looking forward to going back. I can easily see Liar Liar becoming a go-to for birthdays, client dinners, group catch-ups, and those nights when you want something that feels a bit more elevated than a standard dinner booking.
