Rocky the Raccoon’s Really Rough, Terrible, Very Bad Day

Chapter 1: A Morning Full of Mishaps

Rocky the Raccoon woke up one morning with a sinking feeling. The sky outside his den looked dark and gloomy, with thick clouds hanging low. Even the usual sounds of birds chirping felt muted. Rocky stretched his paws wide, but before he even hopped out of his cozy little bed, he could tell: today was not going to be a good one.

The first thing that happened? Rocky went to tidy up his messy fur, only to find a sticky blob of honey stuck right in the middle of his tail. The honey from yesterday’s sweet treat had somehow gotten all tangled in his fur. He tried to pull it out, but it was stuck tight! Rocky groaned as he tugged and pulled, making the sticky mess even worse. “Maybe I should move to the moon,” he mumbled, but even the thought of moon cheese didn’t cheer him up.

Next, Rocky dashed downstairs to have some breakfast. But in his hurry, he tripped on a pile of leaves that had blown inside overnight. “Oof!” he grunted as he tumbled and landed right in a muddy puddle. Now, his favorite scarf was drenched, and he didn’t have time to change. “I’m definitely moving to the moon,” Rocky sighed as he stared at his reflection in the pond outside.

Chapter 2: A Disappointing Meal

At breakfast, things didn’t get much better. Rocky’s friends, Benny the Bunny and Sam the Squirrel, were having a grand time with their breakfast treats. Benny had a pile of carrot pancakes that smelled delicious, and Sam had a basket of crunchy acorns.

But Rocky? All he got was a soggy plate of mushy fruit salad. “I didn’t get any pancakes!” Rocky pouted, looking at his friends, but they were too busy munching on their treats to notice.

Feeling left out, Rocky pushed his salad around with his paw. “I think I’ll move to the moon,” he muttered, imagining a land made entirely of moon pies, far away from his friends’ cheerful chatter.

Chapter 3: School Woes

On the way to school, things kept going wrong. Rocky was hoping for a nice, quiet spot by the window in the school cart, but Benny had already claimed it. “Scoot over!” Rocky said, but Benny just smiled and snuggled into his seat. “It’s my turn,” Benny said, giving Rocky a little wink.

At school, things didn’t improve. Mrs. Featherstone, the teacher owl, didn’t understand Rocky’s drawing of a cloud castle in the sky. “Rocky, dear, all I see is a blank page,” she said, peering over her glasses. “It’s a castle, I swear,” Rocky muttered, feeling embarrassed.

And then, during recess, his best friend Sam came up to him with a frown. “I found a new best friend,” Sam said, looking down at the ground. “But… but Sam! You’re my best friend!” Rocky’s voice wobbled. Sam didn’t answer, and Rocky felt a lump in his throat.

“I think I’ll move to the moon,” Rocky whispered to himself, staring at the clouds. He imagined the moon being a quiet, peaceful place where no one could leave him behind.

Chapter 4: The Shoe Store Disaster

After school, Rocky’s mom took him to the store to get a new pair of shoes. Rocky had his eye on a shiny pair of sneakers with glowing lights. “These are going to be perfect,” he thought as they walked down the aisles.

But when they reached the shelf, there was only one pair left—boring, plain brown shoes with no lights, no sparkle. “I don’t want these!” Rocky said, kicking the box across the floor. His mom sighed, but smiled at him. “These shoes will take you on many adventures,” she said gently. But Rocky wasn’t feeling very adventurous.

“I think I’ll move to the moon,” he said again, wondering if moon shoes would be cooler.

Chapter 5: The Mushy Dinner

That evening, Rocky sat down to dinner, dreading the moment his mom placed his plate in front of him. His least favorite food, green mushy peas, was sitting there, staring up at him. And to make matters worse, there was no dessert—no honey cakes, no berry jam!

“You need to eat your vegetables, Rocky,” his mom said kindly. But Rocky just stared at the peas. He poked one with his paw, and it squished even worse than he remembered. “Ugh! I think I’ll move to the moon,” Rocky groaned, pushing his plate away. He imagined a place where there were no peas, only sweet moonfruit.

Chapter 6: Bedtime Troubles

Finally, when it was time for bed, things didn’t go right either. Rocky climbed into his bed, hoping for a peaceful night of sleep. But the blanket was all twisted and lumpy. When he tried to get comfy, he accidentally knocked over his stack of books. The nightlight that usually comforted him didn’t turn on. Instead, the room was pitch dark.

Rocky shivered a little, feeling a little afraid. “I think I’ll move to the moon,” he said quietly, wishing for a safe, bright place where it was always peaceful.

Chapter 7: A Hug and a New Day

Just as Rocky was about to drift off to sleep, his mom came in to tuck him in. She pulled the blankets up to his chin and gave him a warm hug.

“I know today has been tough,” she said gently, “but sometimes, days like these just happen. Even on the moon.”

Rocky looked up at his mom, his eyes wide. “Even on the moon?” he asked, confused.

“Of course,” his mom smiled, brushing a leaf from his fur. “But tomorrow is a new day, and who knows? Maybe you’ll find a new friend, or your shoes will have lights. Tomorrow could be full of surprises.”

Rocky smiled, feeling a little lighter. Maybe tomorrow would be better. After all, the moon wasn’t going anywhere, and tomorrow could bring something exciting.

With that hopeful thought, Rocky closed his eyes, let out a deep breath, and fell fast asleep, dreaming of the adventures he would have tomorrow.
