Sail Melbourne 2022
The premier Olympic and Invited Classes Regatta in Australia is called Sail Melbourne, and it takes place yearly in Victoria's Port Phillip.
It was first held in 1992 and has since grown to be the biggest annual "Off the Beach" regatta in the southern hemisphere. It is essential to the development and success of junior and youth sailors by giving them the chance to compete against their Olympic idols.
Every summer, Sail Melbourne hosts a number of World Championship Regattas—more than 30 have taken place so far.
In addition, Sail Melbourne hosted the Sailing World Cup Final in 2016 and the Oceania leg of the competition from 2012 to 2015.
The International Olympic Committee formally recognises World Sailing as the global governing body for sailing. The development of the International Yacht Racing Rules and Regulations, management of sailing at the Olympic Games, and instruction of judges, umpires, and other officials are all tasks that fall under the purview of World Sailing.
The larger yachts that compete in races like the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race are different from those used in Olympic class sailing. Small one- or two-person dinghies are used for "off-beach" sailing. There are a total of ten Olympic classes and three Paralympic classes that are open for competition.
Sail Melbourne is acknowledged as a World Sailing-approved ranking event that is authorised annually for all Olympic Classes. The World Sailing website has additional details about rankings -Â https://www.sailing.org/rankings/rankings-explained/fleet-racing-rankings/
